Lula Mae Ellis, 77, Akron, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Akron Care Center.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Don Collison officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 until service time. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery.

Lula Mae was born December 5, 1932 at Cibolo, Texas, the daughter of Hugo and Laura (Octeburg) Pfannstiel. She graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio, TX in 1951.

Lula Mae and Howard Ellis were united in marriage March 2, 1951 in San Antonio. The couple made their home in various locations before retiring to Akron.

She was a member of the First Christian Church at Sloan and Queen Esther Chapter #222 Order of the Eastern Star, Onawa. Lula Mae enjoyed gardening, baking, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Howard; four children, Lynda (Roger) Otten of Paradise, CA, Dr. David (Brenda) Ellis of Chico, CA, Pamela (Don) Banta of Hawarden, IA and Laura (Jim) Sailer of Moville, IA; grandchildren, Brian (Carrie) Tillman, Sarah Ellis, Aaron Ellis, Charles Banta, Nicole (Barry) Hoogland, Christine Sailer, Jeffrey Sailer, Bethany Sailer; a great granddaughter, Madeline Hoogland; two step great grand children, Lars and Courtney; her twin sister, Betty Jean Atkins of Dallas, TX; a brother, Clarence Pfannstiel of San Antonio; two sisters-in-law, Lula Mae Manders and Darlene Ellis and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Thusnelda Taylor.
