5 June 1997Dorothy G Young, 85, of Little Sioux, Iowa, died Thursday, May 22, 1997, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.
Mrs. Young was born November 1, 1911, at Little Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of George and Grace (Mortenson) Armstrong. She graduated from Little Sioux High School and received a Teaching Certificate from Cedar Falls Teachers College. She taught in a country school North of Little Sioux. On May 27, 1931, she married Wayne Jasper Young at Corning, Iowa. He died January 25, 1977 at Onawa, Iowa. She moved to Pleasant View Nursing Home in 1995.
She was a member of the Little Sioux Church of Christ, the Little Sioux Bible Study Group, and the Canasta Club.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Oscar and June Young of Little Sioux, Iowa, Darrell and Sharon Young of Omaha, Nebr. and George and Joan Young of Tempe, Az.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gordon Cross of Mondamin, Iowa, Leo Cross and Eldon Cross, both of Evansville, In. and Jack Little of Blair, Ne; two sisters, Imogene Haller and Pearl Woods, both of Portland, Oregon and a sister-in-law, Dolores Armstrong of Portland, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Eugene Armstrong and Donald Cross; and her Aunt Ella Little, who raised her.
Funeral services were held at 10;00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 1997 at the Church of Christ. Little Sioux , Iowa with Pastor Wayne Armstrong officiating. The organist was Mrs. Roger Pippitt and the soloist, Mr. Roger Pippitt sang “In The Garden”. The congregational hymn was “The Old Rugged Cross”.
Casket bearers were Mark Young, Perry Young, George Young, Terry Young, Kevin Young and Lance Baldwin.
Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
