Bert I Shomaker, 75, Falls City, Nebraska, died suddenly at 8:15 p.m. Monday, February 8, 1972 at his home. His death was due to a heart attack.

Mr. Shomaker was born June 13, 1896, at Carlock, Illinois, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shomaker, and was reared there. He was married to Miss Hulda Unzicker and four children were born to this union.

January 23, 1950, he was married in Falls City to Miss Amanda Kuhlman at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He and his wife, Amanda and Mr. and Ms. Amos Husa operated a propane gas business for five years at Parsons, Kansas and in 1955 the two couples moved to Onawa, Iowa and formed a corporation known ad the Onawa Propane Gas Co, Inc. and also operated a heating and air conditioning business. In January of 1971 the corporation was sold and both couples retired. On April 27, 1971 Mr. and Mrs. Shomaker moved to Falls City.

Mr. Shomaker served in World War I with the 87th Engineers in Europe and served in World War II with the medical corps and was stationed in Kansas City, Kansas. Following the war he worked for a time for the Kansas City News in Kansas City.

Mr. Shomaker was a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife of Falls City, a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Darlene) West, Falls City, by the second marriage; a daughter, Mrs. T.C. (Gwendolyn) Wyatt, Bloomington, Illinois, two sons, Paul Shomaker, Joliet, Illinois and Robert Shomaker, Dallas, Texas, the later three by the first marriage; four sisters, Mrs. A.J. (Lorene) McClure, Danvers, Illinois, Mrs. Blanche Dixon, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Joe (Lucille) Alltop and Mrs. Edward (Marietta) Alltop, both of Pontiac, Illinois; four brothers, Lyle Shomaker, Arkansas, Earl and Paul Shomaker both of Colfax, Illinois and Clarence Shomaker of Bloomington, Illinois; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A son James Edward Shomaker 49, died in 1969 and a brother Raymond preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, February 10 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Falls City with Rev. Richard DeVilliers and Rev. Karl Konig officiating. Interment was in Steele Cemetery. Arrangements were by Dorr Funeral Home.
