Otto Anderson was born September 15, 1861 in Varmland, Sweden. His early life was spent there in simple farm environment, being trained in the common school and in the Lutheran faith of that land. In September, 1883, he came to America, having passage direct to Onawa from Sweden. He spent ten years in the vicinity of Castana, Arcola and Onawa working on farms and as a carpenter.
On April 20, 1892 he was united in marriage to Hedvig Mauritus who also had come from Sweden. For three years they made their home near Onawa. Then they wished to find a permanent farm home and bought the land in Ashton Township where they have since lived.
He became a member of the Whiting church of Christ, being baptized December 11, 1908 by C.A. Park.
He leaves to mourn his death his widow, two sons, Edgar and Harold, two daughters, Mrs. Anna Dickson of Polson, Montana, and Mrs. Alice Letterly. There are four grandchildren. He was the youngest of a family of five of which a sister and brother remain in Sweden.
He was actively interested in community affairs and was engaged in farming until his recent illness. He passed away at his home near Whiting, Iowa on May 19, 1939 after nearly seven months of poor health, being 77 years, 8 months and 4 days of age.
Funeral services were conducted from the Whiting Church of Christ on May 22 by M.C. Miller and burial was made in the Whiting Cemetery.
