Donald Roy Scurlocke, 80, Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Onawa, Iowa died suddenly Monday, December 16, 2002 at a hospital in Omaha.

Donald was born January 23, 1922 at Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lois (Conyers) Scurlocke. He graduated from Onawa High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served during WWII. He was discharged in 1946. He began his Federal civilian career with the Area Engineering Office, Onawa, Iowa, in October 1950 as an Engineering Aide and retired January 31, 1984 as an Electrical Engineer, Facilities Support Section, Military Branch. During his career he received special recognition for the quality of his work by many letters of Appreciation, two Sustained Superior Performance Awards, and a Special Act Award.

He was married to Wanda Cutler in 1941 and later to Mildred Miller in 1964 at Omaha, Nebraska.

Survivors include a son, Donald Scott Scurlocke of Omaha; a daughter Penelope and her husband Jerry Norris of Springfield, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Donald and Russell Norris and Scotty, Shane, Jay and Athena Scurlocke; four great-grandchildren, Eric, Kristine, Sara and Aaudrey Norris; a brother, Bill and his wife Lola of Onawa and a sister Gerada and her husband Leslie Gowey of Lebanon, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl, Lowell and Don and six sisters, Venice Parsons, Zella Gierman, Leona McLaughlin, Iola “Toots” Tuttle, Irene Maxey and Helen Scurlock.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2002 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor John Noer officiating. Patty Gibson sang “Amazing Grace” and “Wind Beneath My Wings” and Maurine Frisk was organist. Burial was in Onawa Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Navy and Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694.

Casket bearers were Donald Scott and Scotty Scurlocke, Bob Beedle, Russell Norris, Eric Norris and Joe Scurlock.
