George W. Koontz 1886-1968

George W. Koontz was born at Glidden on July 25, 1886 and passed from this life at Burgess Memorial Hospital on May 2. Death came following a long illness. He had reached the age of 81 years, 9 months , 7 days. He was the son of James R. and Katherine Zenner Koontz.

For 35 years he served as an employee of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He retired from this work 13 years ago.

He was united in marriage with Emma V. Clayton, who preceded him in death January 2, 1968. They made their home in Onawa and then moved to Sioux City where they lived for 26 years. The past 15 months his home had been here in Onawa.

Survivors include his one son, Merle Koontz of Dunlap; two daughters, Beulah Koontz of Sioux City and Frances Larkin of Onawa; two grandsons, William Wickersham of Blue Earth, Minn. and John Larkin of Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Debbie and Mark Wickersham of Blue Earth, Minn.; two brothers, Frank Koontz of Onawa and William Koontz of Sioux City; and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Folwell of Whiting.

Besides his wife, Emma, he was preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel at Onawa. Rev. Everett Epperson officiated. Organist for the service was Mrs. Clara Kelley.

Casket bearers were George Armstrong, Lowell Dinwiddie, Everett Clayton, Merle Mock, Fred Fountain and Clyde Robinson. Interment was at the Onawa Cemetery. Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
