Mapleton, Iowa—Helen V. LeFebvre, 82, of Mapleton died Friday, January 14, 2000 at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary said by St. Mary’s Guild at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. LeFebvre was born July 21, 1917 in Des Moines, the daughter of Albert Le Roy and Pearl Irene (Swartout) Zabel.

She married Leonard LeFebvre on August 2, 1935, in San Francisco. The couple lived in San Francisco for seven years returning to Mapleton in 1942. In 1948 they started farming in the area. In 1956 they moved back into Mapleton and started the Queen’s Laundromat which they operated for several years. She also worked in the Mapleton Trust and Savings Bank. Her husband died August 28, 1990.

She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton. She was a member of St. Mary’s Guild. She served as head of the quilting Club for the Guild for several years and also volunteered for years as a secretary for the Rev. Bruch.

She enjoyed square dancing, and boating on Blue Lake at Onawa.

Survivors include two sons and their wives; Larry and Mary Etta McCarthy of Columbia, S.C. and Jim and Jaclyn of Metamora, Ill.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Grayce Gries.
