Mapleton, Iowa—Joyce Davis, 79, of Mapleton died Friday, January 7, 2000 in Carroll, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. said by St. Mary’s Guild and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Davis was born March 24, 1920, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Bart and Genevieve (Collins) Barry. Following her parents deaths when she was a child, she was raised by her aunts, Esther and Lucille Collins. She graduated from Danbury High School.

She married Willie David Davis on April 23, 1941, in Danbury. The couple made their home in Mapleton, where she was employed with Griffin Pharmacy and the Family Shoe Store. Following their retirement, they wintered in Sun City, Ariz. He died March 27, 1995. She then moved to Carroll.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St Mary’s Guild, Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Auxiliary, Willow Vale Golf Course and TOPS. She served on the D.C.C.W. Council and was appointed to the District Judicial Commission for the Fourth District of Iowa by Gov. Harold Hughes. She enjoyed sports.

Survivors include a daughter, Bette Meish of Slidell, La.; two sons and their wives, John and Sharyl of Carroll and Dave and Joan of Rapid City, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Debbie, Dan, Tony, Abbie and Nick Davis, Jeri Ramsey and Brad Meisch; five great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Jack and Barb Barry of Burnsville, Minn.; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Babbe and Louise Davis, both of Mapleton and Mae Barry of Sioux City; and a brother-in-law, Mel Rogge of Correctionville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roy and George Barry; a sister, Helen Fitzpatrick and her two aunts that raised her.
