Mrs. Dora E. Olson, 78, of Whiting, Iowa departed from this life at Burgess Memorial Hospital at Onawa, Iowa on August 31, 1974 after a brief illness.

She was born in the Albaton community near Sloan, Iowa on June 10, 1896, the daughter of Anton and Emma Amundson Solien. On February 28, 1917 she was married to Carl Olson who preceded her in death in 1959. She lived in the Albaton community until she moved to California in 1952. She married J. Newell Olson on October 23, 1967 and had resided at Whiting since that time. She was a lifelong member of Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton.

Survivors include her husband, J. Newell Olson, at Whiting; a son, Carlton of El Centro, California and a daughter, Mrs. Betty Karlewiez of New York; four sisters, Mrs. T.A. (Hallie) Johnson of Elk Point, S.D., Mrs. Edna Olson and Mrs. David (Grace) Lofshult, both of Sloan, Iowa, and Mrs. Marguriete Detelfs, of San Diego, California, two brothers Edgar Solien of Sioux City, Iowa and Everett Solien of Kansas City. There are five grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 1974 at the Skein Lutheran Church at Albaton with Rev. Donald Wilkowski officiating. Mr. Larry Nelson sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In The Garden” accompanied by Mrs. Jon Roarson.

Bearers were Leslie (Bud) Thomas, Clifford Lee, Robert Friis, Elliott Olson, John Lofshult and Glen Thomas.

Interment was in the Skien Lutheran Church Cemetery at Albaton with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting and Sloan, Iowa.
