George Elliot Olson, 79, of Sloan, Iowa, died Friday, May 14, 1993 at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Elliott was born October 8, 1913 in rural Albaton, Iowa, the son of George and Mary (Johnson) Olson. He graduated from Sloan High School in 1932 and married Maxine Hutchins June 1, 1940 at Albaton. The couple farmed in Albaton and South Dakota. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, managed a cream station and retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation in 1978 after 20 years of service.

Elliott was a lifelong member of Skien Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Sloan; three daughters all of Sioux City, Toni Snodgrass and her husband, Jerry, Becky Vermilyea and her husband, John and Julie Casavant and her husband, Mike; a brother Robert and his wife, Bernadine, of Manteca, CA; three sisters, Carrie Solien of Onawa, Iowa, June Hughey of Ventura, CA, and Mabel Jacobson of Odebolt, Iowa; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and an infant brother, Glen and three sisters, Grace Swanson, Alice Thompson and an infant sister, Edna.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 17, 1993 at Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa with Rev. Peter V Boe officiating. The organist was Mrs. Marlene Westergaard and the soloist, Mrs. Myron Armour, sang, “How Great Thou Art” and “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”.

Casket bearers were Grandchildren, Scott Snodgrass, Dan Snodgrass, Amy Snodgrass, Doug Snodgrass, Mark Vermilyea and Melissa Maxfield.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
