Richard L. Nagel, 68, Onawa, Iowa, died suddenly Monday, August 31, 2009 at his residence.

Richard was born April 17, 1941 at Onawa, Iowa the son of Walter and Florence (Barnes) Nagel. He was raised in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School. He served in the United State Navy.

LaVerne Murphy and Richard were united in marriage in Texas. The couple made their home and raised their family in the Onawa area. LaVerne passed away August 26, 1989. Richard worked nearly 40 years for E.A. Pederson Electrical Company and retired as a line supervisor.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. His greatest joy of life was his family. He was a devoted son, father and grandfather with love and a special spot in his heart for each individual.

Survivors include his special friend and companion, Betty Wolaver of Onawa; a daughter, Loretta Johansen of Houston, TX; three sons, Bobby Nagel of Grand Island, NE., Tom “Butch” Nagel of Onawa and Dan Nagel; nine grandchildren, Brandi, Mark, Vincent, Amanda, Nikki, Rene, Stephanie, Samantha and Spencer; his mother, Florence Nagel of Onawa; a sister, Loretta Kelley of Spotsylvania, Va. and two brothers, Robert “Bob” Nagel of Onawa and Raymond Nagel of Spotsylvania.

In Addition to his wife LaVerne, he was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service was 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Rush Family Chapel with Elder Ralph Hussing officiating. Music selections were “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “When I Get Where I’m Going”. Military Honors were conducted by the United States Navy. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa at a later date.
