Thora Sofea Christensen was born at Horsens, Denmark on October 30, 1868 and passed from this life on Friday, August 16, 1957 at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 16 days. She came to America and Monona County in July of 1886 and was united in marriage with Charles C. Knoff on December 26, 1886 at Moorhead. To this union seven children were born, six sons and one daughter. Mr. Knoff died in 1934.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a faithful member to the end.

She was the last surviving charter member of the Bethesda congregational. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid Society when she lived in the Moorhead community.

Since coming to this country she had lived in the Moorhead community until the past few years, when she made her home in Onawa. For the past three months she had resided at the nursing home in Turin.

On February 29, 1936 she was united in marriage with Jay Hutcheson at Onawa. Mr. Hutcheson died in 1956.

Survivors include six sons; Chris at Chowchilla, Calif., Pete at Castana, Ben and Joe at Moorhead and John and Andrew at Turin; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a number of other relatives and a host of friends throughout the county who will remember her.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 19, at 1 p.m. at the Pearson Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Fitzgerald conducting the services. Mrs. Oliver Kelley provided the organ music, Rev. F.W. Thomson conducted the services at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead at 2 p.m. A quartet composed of Mrs. Page Eskelsen, Miss Nadine Johnson, Magnus Jepson and Virgil Johnson sang “Abide With Me” and “Rock of Ages” accompanied at the organ by Miss Judy Mortensen. Bearers were Page Eskelsen, Howard Johnson, Nels J Nelson, Elmer Eskelsen, John P Johnson and Thorvald Peterson. Interment was in the Bethesda Church cemetery.
