ONAWA, Iowa -- S. Evelyn Johnson, 96, of Onawa passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Don Collison officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery.

Evelyn was born July 14, 1913, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Selma (Severson) Johnson. She attended school in Turin, Iowa, until moving with her family to Onawa.

She and Victor Johnson were united in marriage on April 6, 1936. They made their home in Onawa until Victor passed away in 1970. She had been a resident of Elmwood Care Centre for the past five years.

She was a member of First Christian Church and Women's Council, American Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah's Lodge, Community Betterment and the Elmwood Care Review Board.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Connie and Douglas Herbon of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson of Omaha; and a grandson, Christopher Herbon.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Cecil Johnson; and six brothers and sisters.
