Phyllis Jean Wax was born August 20, 1945, at Ute, Iowa. She died July 3, 2009 in Bronson, Iowa after losing her battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday July 7th 2009 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Message in the music was provided by Marie Whiting, Accompanist. Pallbearers were her nieces and nephews, Glen Thompson, Mike Albertsen, Jill Shepperd, Jamie Neddermeyer, Shannon Fox, Frankie Thompson, Brandy Peabody, Rhonda Leonard, Abby Penning, Ben Penning, Dena Neddermeyer, Tracy Muntz and Lacy Jacobsen. Interment at St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa.

Phyllis was the daughter of Howard and Norma Ella (Engelke) Thompson. The family moved to Smithland, Iowa, January 1, 1952. Phyllis graduated from Westwood High School and later moved to Brown"s Lake at Salix, Iowa. The last five years she has shared a home with Chuck Downing at Bronson, Iowa.

She first worked at the Bellas Hess Store in Sioux City, then at Montgomery Ward, and later served the City of Sergeant Bluff as City Clerk.
She enjoyed bowling, camping and eating out with friends, and the experiences she had the years she rode on RAGBRAI. Phyllis shared a deep affection with her dog, Moose. She was known for her kindness and generosity to family and friends.

Survivors include a special friend, Chuck Downing of Bronson; three brothers, Arnold Thompson and his wife, Dolores of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Randy Thompson of Onawa, Iowa, and Bruce Thompson of Smithland, Iowa; and three sisters and their husbands, Dianne and Roger Beck of Sioux City, June and Melvin Neddermeyer of Charter Oak, Iowa, and Pat and Lowell Penning of Le Mars, Iowa and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Sherry Thompson; a nephew, Randy Thompson; and a niece, Niki Beck

Arrangements were under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home.
