ONAWA, Iowa -- Ernest L. Sick, 76, of Onawa passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. William F. Mattingly officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ernest Lee Sick was born March 19, 1933, in Harlan, Iowa, the son of Emil C. and Mary P. (Perino) Sick. He was raised in the Harlan area, where he attended school at both Kirkman and Harlan before the family moved to Onawa in 1948. He graduated from Onawa High School with the class of 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Nov. 18, 1952. He served during the Korean War until his discharge on Nov. 17, 1955.

He and Eileen Hall were united in marriage in 1954. They were blessed with three children. He worked with his dad in a blacksmith shop in Onawa from 1955 to 1964, when he purchased the shop. He owned and operated the North Side Shop until his retirement in 1995. Eileen passed away in 1993.

He and Yvonne (Farber) Parks were united in marriage in 1996 and have continued living in Onawa. He worked part-time at Dave's World from 1995 until 2009.

He regularly participated in Boy Scouts and enjoyed their meetings, camp outs and projects.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Sick of Onawa; a son, David Sick and his friend, Amy of Onawa; two daughters, Janet Uehling of Decatur, Neb., and Linda Conklin of Onawa; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a stepson and his wife, Dan and Susan Parks and their family of Chino Hills, Calif.; three brothers and their wives, Charles and Loretta of Ida Grove, Iowa, Leo and Nancy of California, and Lonnie and Carol of Omaha; and a sister, Elsa Martin of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents
