TURIN, Iowa -- Jesse "Jake" Phipps, 90, of Turin died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery in Turin. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

TURIN, Iowa - Jesse "Jake" Phipps, 90, of Turin died Tuesday April 13, 2004 at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Phipps was born Jan. 7, 1914 in rural Castana, Iowa, the son of Ed and Grace (McCrory) Phipps. He was raised and attended school in the Castana area. He married Evelyn Bartels on March 10, 1938 in Onawa. He farmed for Jack Hodgeson and John Comfort near Blencoe and later farmed near Turin. Evelyn died April 4, 2004 in Sioux City.

Jake enjoyed playing horseshoes and snooker, hunting, fishing and trapping.

Survivors include two sisters, Ida Huntley and Bernice and her husband Don Wright, all of Onawa; numerous nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Irene Reinbold of Mapleton, Iowa and Marie McDonald of Castana.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bud and Earl.
