TURIN, Iowa -- Evelyn Paula Alma Phipps, 81, of Turin died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Sioux City.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Steven Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Evelyn P.A. Bartels was born April 12, 1922, near Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Kuhlmann) Bartels. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On March 10, 1938, she was united in marriage to Jesse Phipps in Onawa. She worked in the Turin U.S. Post Office for 16 years.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing and visiting with her family and friends.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jess of Turin; and two sisters, Irene Reinbold of Mapleton, Iowa, and Marie McDonald of Castana, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Walter; and a sister, Clara Jochims.
