Mother of ten children remembered Sept. 28

Colette Margarita Rosener was born March 17, 1911, in Lyon County at Larchwood, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Agnes Snyders Underberg. She died Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, at the age of ninety.

Colette was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Larchwood. She received her first Holy Communion at St. Mary’s on May 1, 1921 from Fr. S.P. Roth. She was educated there at St. Mary’s School.

On January 23, 1934, Colette was united in marriage to Joseph Rosener at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. They made their home in Breda, later moving to Wall Lake and then to their farm near Vail, Iowa. They were blessed with the birth of ten children.

Colette was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail for fifty-three years and also St. Ann’s Guild. She was a member of several card clubs and a volunteer at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. Colette enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening and quilting in her leisure time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph in 1977, one grandchild and one great-grandchild. Also six brothers, John Henry, Peter, Matthias, Ted and Andrew Underberg and two sisters, Clara Caine and Loretta Schavee. Survivors include five sons, John and his wife, Jeanne of Newcastle, Nebraska, Frank and his wife, Ruby of Vail, Joseph and his wife, Barbara of Marcus, Ray and his wife, Marjorie of Rodney, Richard and his wife, Susan of Vail; five daughters, Mary Ann Henkenius and her husband, Edward of Mapleton, Agnes Rosener of Omaha, Sister Barbara Rosener of Vail, Joyce Farley and her husband, Glenn of Omaha and Rita Bruening and her husband, Richard of Newcastle, Nebraska; fifty grandchildren; seventy-two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Bell of Woodbury, Minnesota. Also three sister-in-law, Frances Baumhover of Wall Lake, Sid Underberg of Rock Rapids and Suzanna Underberg of Larchwood; three brothers-in-law, Ben Rosener of Wall Lake, Mike Schavee and Phil Caine, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2001 at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa, with Fr. John Thomas officiating the Mass and grave side rites at the church cemetery. Irene Feilmeier accompanied St. Ann’s Family Choir serving as vocalists for the Mass. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday with the Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Those serving as pallbearers were Brian Rosener, Scott Rosener, Matt Rosener, Mark Rosener, Curt Rosener, Bob Rosener, Dan Rosener and Jeff Rosener. The family invited those attending the Mass to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Altar Society.
