Carlena Matilda Vestergaard, 90, was born October 21, 1883, in Moorhead, Iowa, a daughter of Johanna Maria and Rasmus Hendrickson. Her mother was born in Sweden and her father in Denmark. She was united in marriage to John Christian Vestergaard in 1907 in Spencer, Iowa. She had been a country school teacher prior to her marriage and is remembered in this area. After their marriage they lived in Spencer 59 years. One daughter was born to this union. They were members of the Danish Lutheran Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1953. She moved to Clarendon, Illinois to be with her daughter in 1966, where she passed away July 16, 1974.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Walter N. Jones, one grandson, three sisters, Mrs. Thayer E. Brown I of Turin, Iowa, Mrs. Guy Potts of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Rose Hundahl of Dallas, Texas, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Andrew Vestergaard of Milford, Iowa and other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers and her parents. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery of Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Pastor Norman Stubbendick officiated. The Warner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
