Services Held Wednesday for Marilyn Woodward

Marilyn L Woodward, 18, of Sioux City, daughter of Mrs. Blanche Woodward of Castana died Sunday, July 10, 1966 at a Sioux City hospital of head injuries suffered July 2 in a one car accident south of Salix on Interstate 29.

Driver of the car was Franklin U. Lambert, 25, of the Sioux City Air Base. He suffered scratches in the accident but was not hospitalized.

Iowa Highway Patrolman C.E. Baudler of Moville, said Lambert lost control of the vehicle “for no apparent reason”. The southbound vehicle went into a ditch and rolled over, he reported.

The couple was enroute to the home of Miss Woodward’s mother at Castana, Iowa when the accident occurred, the patrolman stated.

Miss Woodward was born December 18, 1947 at Ticonic, Iowa. She was a 1966 graduate of Maple Valley High School and was a member of the 1966 girls basketball team that went to the State tournament in Des Moines last spring. Following graduation she had been employed by the Wilson Trailer Company in Sioux City.

Survivors include her mother, Blanche of Castana; and seven brothers, Melvin of Hornick, Everett, Lyle and Don all of Castana; Beers of Smithland; Joe of Sioux City and Jerry of Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 1966 at the Maple Valley high school auditorium in Mapleton. The Rev. Leonard Rowse, pastor of the Mapleton and Ticonic Methodist Churches officiated. Pallbearers included: Randy Olson, Tom Crilly, Wayne Stockelberg, Larry Cmelik, Dennis McCall and Mike Davis. Burial was in Grant Cemetery under the direction of the Willman funeral home of Rodney.
