RODNEY, Iowa - James F. Petersen, 68, of Rodney passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at his home.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery, Rodney. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

James Frank Petersen, son of Frank Henry and Verna Pearl (Guffy) Petersen, was born Nov. 19, 1940, in Sioux City. James was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools and East High. Following high school, he went to work for Irving F. Jensen Construction.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, 1960, James was united in marriage to Diana Marie Schlickenmayer in Pipestone, Minn. To this union, five children were born, Penny, Patricia, Jamie, Kathy and Stuart. The family made their home in Sioux City, Cherokee, Smithland, then moved to Rodney in 1970. James continued to work for Irving F. Jensen until 1990, when he and his partner, Frank Gruber, opened Rodney Repair.

James enjoyed fishing, building, working on his cars, hunting, caring for his hunting dogs, and most of all, being with his family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 49 years, Diana Marie Petersen of Rodney; their children, Penny Dykes and husband, Dave of Newburgh, Ind., Patricia Edwards of St. Louis, Mo., Jamie Petersen and wife, Sheri of Salix, Iowa, Kathy Johnson and husband, Greg of Grangeville, Idaho, and Stuart Petersen and wife, Michelle of Cherokee, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cheryl Irving of Louisiana and Nancy Petersen of Sioux City; honorary family member, Diane (Yockey) Heinse of Anthon, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Verna Petersen; a sister, Judy Bainbridge; a granddaughter, Larissa Petersen; and two grandsons, Curtis and Zachary Dykes.
