TURIN, Iowa -- Mike Mikkelson, 74, of Turin died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Chuck Layton officiating. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mike was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Turin, the son of Walter Michael and Alta (Bell) Mikkelson. He graduated from Castana (Iowa) High School in 1948.

He married Ruth Nelson on Oct. 14, 1949, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in the Turin vicinity, where he was a life long farmer of 61 years.

He was affiliated with United Methodist Church in Turin and a member of the Vesper Lodge 223 A.F. & A.M. of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Turin; a daughter and her husband, Vickie and Kent Miller of Fairfield, Neb.; two sons, Dennis Mikkelson of Turin and Ron Mikkelson and his wife, Dawn, of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Sarah and her husband, Chris Bolte, of Bruning, Neb., Nicole and Lauren Mikkelson of Sioux City and Alex, Aaron and Clair Mikkelson of Turin; a great-granddaughter, Jordan Bolte; and a niece and nephew, Cheri Gibler and Chris Mathison, both of Turin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Charles Miller; a sister and her husband, Joyce and Corny Mathison; and a nephew, Casey Mathison.
