Etta Vande Stouwe, 90, Whiting, Iowa, passed away January 6, 1985, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa.

She was born May 7, 1894, at Trask, Missouri, to William E. and Ella Irish Norwood. Her family moved to Whiting when she was young and she graduated from Whiting High School in 1913. She attended National Business raining School (NBT) in Sioux City, Iowa and worked for a short time in Sioux City. She worked in the Whiting Bank until Bank Holiday in 1931 when she moved to Morgantown, West Virginia and worked in the office of Receivers of National Bank assisting in liquidation of closed banks. On April 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to Henry Vande Stouwe. She returned to Whiting in 1945 and worked as bookkeeper for Southside Elevator and Whiting Coop Elevator for 15 years until retiring June 30, 1967. Her husband, Henry, died October 24, 1957, at Onawa.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Whiting for over 50 years and for many years was Treasurer of the Church.

Survivors include; three nieces, Pauline Baker, and Lois Creed, both of California, and Betty Mackey of Texas; and one nephew, Harold Norwood of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one brother.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 1985, at the First Congregational UCC at Whiting with Rev. Thomas L. Guenther officiating. Mrs. E.B. Matthews, the organist, and Mrs. Florence Garred, pianist accompanied congregational singing of “What A Friend.”

Bearers were Dean Forbes, Don Croker, Dick Derr, Charles Funkhouser, Vincent Willey and Stan Gibler.
Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery at Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
