Wilmer "Pepsi" Knutson, Jr., 73, a lifetime resident of Soldier, Iowa, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa.

He was born June 24, 1927, at Soldier, Iowa, the son of Wilmer C. "Pete" and Mary (Riddle) Knutson. He graduated from Soldier High School and farmed near Soldier until entering the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served as ship's cook third class. Following the service, he worked in construction and was a general laborer at the Worldwide Packing Plant in Denison, Iowa, until his retirement. On December 30, 1968, he married Bernice Plueger McClintock at Luverne, Mn.

He was confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the Soldier Valley American Legion Post #462 at Soldier and was presently a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5605 at Ute.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Soldier; eight children, Bruce and his wife, Lisa of LeMars, Iowa, Anna and husband, James Grell of Danbury, Iowa, Monica and husband, Travis McAlpin of Norwalk, Iowa, Donnie of Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy McLaughlin of Aurelia, Iowa, Shirley and husband Dough Radtke of Sioux Falls, SD, Linda and husband, Tom Ambrose of Fairbury, Ill, Karen and husband, Muichael Reed of Greeley, Co., a Step-daughter, Lori Johnson of LeMars, Iowa; one brother, Russell and his wife, Donna J. Knutson of Boone, Iowa; one sister, Barbara and her husband, Lyle Wallin of Laurens, Iowa; twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2000, at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Rev. Steven C Hetzel officiating. The organist, Mrs. Gilma Gibbs Ahlers, acvcompanied the congregation in singing the hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". The organist played the recessional song "Go Tell It On The Mountain".

Casket Bearers were Mike Butler, Neal Gorham, Dr. Drew Howard, Warren Bretthauer, Mike Melby and Orvan Ulven.

Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa, with Military Graveside Services by Soldier Valley American Legion Post #462, Maynard Swenson, Commander and by Ute Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post #5605, Eldon Teut, Commander and Norman Meadows, Sgt, At Arms.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
