MOORHEAD, Iowa -- Byron S. Mesenbrink, 75, of Moorhead died Friday, June 26, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with evangelist John Lizer officiating. Burial will be in Ingemann Cemetery, Moorhead. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.mm. Monday at the funeral home.

Byron was born July 29, 1933, in rural Denison, Iowa, the son of Marvin Eric and Hazel Ruth (Meadows) Mesenbrink. He and his family moved to the Moorhead area, where he attended country school. He continued to live in the Moorhead area except for two years that he served in the U.S. Navy.

He and Janet Helen Coffman were united in marriage on Feb. 20, 1954, in Onawa. They made their home and raised their son in Moorhead. At the age of 18, he started working as a farm laborer for Moorhead Stock Farms and continued working more than 50 years for three generations. Janet died March 23, 1998, in Moorhead.

He was an avid hunter, enjoyed tinkering with equipment and most of all spending time and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Timothy Paul and Jackie Mesenbrink of Moorhead; five stepgrandchildren, Eric (Sheryl) Springer, Tina Hinrichsen, Jeff (Kim) Raymond, Lisa Pruett and Jordan Springer; 12 great-stepgrandchildren; a great-great-stepgranddaughter; a brother, Dewayne (Phyllis) of Onawa; three sisters, Shirley (Ken) Ingram of Onawa, Bonnie Yorty of Fremont, Neb., and Marlene Mesenbrink of Aurora, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Janet, he was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother Larry; four nephews; and a niece.
