Lucille A. Hesse, age 90, of Sioux City, Iowa and formely of Mapleton, died Sunday, October 8, 2000, at Sioux City, Iowa.

Services were held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2000 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton with Pastor Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Connie Bridgeman was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Lucille Augusta Johanna (Pranschke) Hesse was born to Edward and Augusta (Henshew) Pranschke March 14, 1910, near Charter Oak, Iowa. She lived on a farm in the area during her growing up years and attended country schools, graduating eighth grade at St. John's Lutheran School. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

Lucille was united in marriage to Carl Hesse November 30, 1927 at Onawa, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm in the Danbury and Mapleton area and in 1984, they bought a farm northwest of Ute, Iowa. Carl passed away February 9, 1957. Lucille moved into Mapleton in 1965 and came to Sioux City to live with her daughter for seven years before entering the Westwood Convalescent Center in 1994.

Those survivors left to cherish Lucille's memory include twins, a daughter, Pearl Fulton and her husband, Frank of Sioux City, Iowa and a son, Earl Hesse and his wife, Cora of Hinton, Iowa, along with two other sons, Virgil Hesse and Carl Hesse and his wife, Char, all of Sioux City, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Frank Fulton, Shelly Peterson, Tina Wolterman, Terri Suhr, Virgil Hesse, Jr, Kathy Yacenich, Pat Case, David Hesse, Jody Lee, Jill Hesse, Herman (Corky) Jenkins, Ted Hesse, Skip Jenkins, Linda Schwedler, Dianne Palmer and Rose Hesse; 25 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren, two brothers, Edward Pranschke of Mapleton, Iowa and Herbert Pranschke of Sioux City, Iowa, and one sister, Viola Barnes of Denison, Iowa.

Along with her husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Vern Hesse; one infant brother, Ferdinand; and three other brothers, Robert, Martin and Arthur; one sister, Clara Pitts; two grandsons, Brian and Ricky Hesse; three great granddaughters, Morgan Lee, Jennifer Hesse and one stillborn and two daughter-in-law, Hazel and Betty Hesse.

Pallbearers were Frank Fulton II, David Hesse, Tina Wolterman, Virgil Hesse, Jr, Shelly Peterson and Dale Wolterman.
