Lena Marsh, the daughter of Neils and Mary (Jensen) Johnson, was born September 27, 1892 in Shelby County near Harlan, Iowa. With her parents, she moved to a farm near Ute, Iowa, later moving to a farm west of Mapleton, Iowa. Lena was united in marriage to Sidney Marsh on December 22, 1915, at Mapleton, Iowa. They lived in Graceville, Minnesota, for 10 years, moving back to Iowa in 1925. They farmed in the Mapleton, Ute, Anthon, Turin and Castana communities.

Her beloved husband preceded her in death on December 18, 1973.

Lena was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church here in Mapleton.

Lena died at the Maple Heights Nursing Home on July 1, 1979, having attained the age of 86 years, 9 months and 4 days.

Survivors include 5 daughters, Mrs. Harold (Viola) Hauschildt of Earlham, Iowa, Mrs. Walter (Marcella) Jones of Creston, Iowa, Mrs. Mervin (Vernal) Whisner of Perry, Iowa, Mrs. Clarence (Delores) Burkhart of Mapleton, Iowa, Mrs. Erwin (Glennis) Copeland of Coloma, Michigan; 4 sons, Elwyn of Polk City, Iowa, Floyd of Mapleton, Iowa, Duane of Dallas Center, Iowa and Kenneth of Adel, Iowa; 40 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. LuElla Sonksen of Canton, Illinois and Mrs. Ted (Anna) Marsh of Mapleton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 daughter, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandsons and 3 brothers.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Bret Marsh, Glenn Marsh, Danny Marsh, Everett Hauschildt, T. Dean Whisner, Steve Marsh, Roger Woodward and Russell Jones.

Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
