Edgar "Unk" Hieber, 73, of Blencoe, Iowa, died Thursday, April 9, 1987, at his home in Blencoe.

Mr. Hieber was born on September 16, 1913 in Castana to Charles and Anna (Nelson) Hieber. He married Juanita Schoenherr September 26, 1936, in Onawa. The couple farmed on his father's farm, and later operated Hieber's Drug in Mapleton. They moved to Sioux City where he worked for Swift & Co. and returned to Mapleton where they farmed for four years. In 1952, they moved to Battle Creek, where he operated Hieber's Market. In 1964 they moved to Blencoe where he operated Hieber's Market until 1974. He operated as a maintainer for Monona County until poor health forced him to retire in 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jack, killed in Vietnam, July 27, 1966, and one brother.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Castana and Vincent of Blencoe; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Albers of Mapleton and Mrs. Leo (Joan) Chandler of Castana; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Farwell of Castana; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 1987, at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. The Rev. Les Kimball, pastor of St Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton officiated. Mrs. Hazel Bruning was organist.

Pallbearers were Archie Dellashmitt, Tom Cooper, Rod Albers, Daniel Hieber, Jeff Albers and Pete Chandler.

Interment was in Mt Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa, with Walter Funeral Service in charge of arrangements,
