UTE, Iowa -- DeWayne W. Eller, 75, of Ute died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Mark Smeltzer officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, with military rites conducted by American Legion Aaby Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5604, both of Ute. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

DeWayne William Eller was born March 22, 1927, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Ray H. and Edith M. (Larson) Eller. He moved with his family to Castana, Iowa, where he received his education at the Castana school.

He worked at the Martin Peterson Grocery Store in Castana prior to entering the U.S. Army. He served his country in World War II. After his honorable discharge, he worked for various farmers in the area. He then moved on to manage various grocery stores in Iowa and California.

On June 17, 1958, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Johnson in South Sioux City. The couple made their home in Ute, where he worked for the city of Ute until his retirement. Dorothy died Feb. 9, 1999.

He was a member of American Legion Aaby Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605.

Survivors left to cherish the memory of DeWayne include a stepson and his wife, Larry and Jean Crosgrove of Ute; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Joann and Ramon Choquette of Sioux City, Lynda and Allan Chartier of Omaha, and Donna and David Kritzer of Sioux City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Along with his wife, DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Frieda; a brother, Glen L. Eller; a sister, Doris Meland; and a stepdaughter and her husband, Galene and Paul Haage.
