MAPLETON, Iowa -- Randel D. Collins, 41, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Mapleton, died in San Antonio.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Randel Dean Collins was born Aug. 31, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Walter Lee and Julia (Nixon) Collins. He grew up in Mapleton, where he graduated with the Maple Valley High School class of 1978. He furthered his education by attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City and Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He returned to Mapleton and worked in the family business, Collins Implement.

On June 12, 1987, Randy married Gloria Campos Tineda in Des Moines. They then moved to Texas, where Randy continued to live until the time of his death.

He was a former member of the Boy Scouts and the Letterman Club, having played football at Maple Valley High School.

Survivors include his parents, Walt and Julia Collins of Mapleton; two sisters and their husbands, LeAnn and Steve Kesinger of Snogualmie, Wash., and Laurie and Kyle Hornor of Pocahontas, Iowa; his maternal grandparents, Albert and Bernice Nixon of Battle Creek, Iowa; five nieces, Michelle and Stephanie Drees, Courtney and Cassidy Keisinger and Brittany Hornor; two nephews, Cameron and Caleb Keisinger; an aunt, Marg and her husband, Tom Senhen of Ida Grove, Iowa; and two uncles, Larry Collins of Sioux City and Jerry and his wife, Gaylen Nixon of Albert City, Iowa.

Randy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth Collins; and a niece, Alyssa Drees.
