West Monona Custodian Dies Suddenly

Clifford Berg was born December 26, 1916, in Ute, Iowa and passed from this life in the Burgess Memorial Hospital on December 31, 1971. Death came suddenly. He had reached the age of 55 years.

For a number of years he farmed in the Castana, Soldier area. He moved to Onawa about seven years ago. At the time of his passing he was employed by the West Monona School as a custodian.

On September 9, 1939 he was united in marriage with Jean Hedum at Battle Creek, Iowa. She preceded him in death. On November 7, 1964 he was united in marriage with Orvillene Hedum in Onawa.

Early in life he accepted the Christ as his Savior and was united with the Soldier Lutheran Church. For the past seven years he has been associated with the First Christian Church of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife Orvillene of Onawa; five daughters; (Linda) Mrs Leland Ashburn Jr. of Ankeny, Iowa; (Sharon) Mrs Richard Ruth of Biloxi, Miss; Marilyn, Christine and Pearlene all at home in Onawa; two sons; Edwin of Whiting and Leonard of Moorhead; six grandchildren; one sister Mrs Lester Langendofer of Sioux City and two brothers; Ralph of Cherokee, Iowa and Alvin of Schreveport, La.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan 3, 1972 at the First Christian Church in Onawa with the Rev Everett Epperson officiating. Diane Epperson sang “In The Garden” and “The Lords Prayer” accompanied by Clara Kelley.

Bearers were Harlan Morgan, Arvid Olson, Jack Lambert, Elmer Vondrak, Ben Grandgenett and Howard Leonard. Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
