WHITING, Iowa -- Gale E. Lee, 78, of Whiting died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Whiting, with the Rev. Reva Karstens officiating. Burial will be in Hite Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Gale was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Soldier, Iowa, the son of George E. and Rose (Meadows) Lee. He graduated from Soldier High School and helped his dad farm before entering the U.S. Marine Corps.

He married Cletis Dumond in Soldier. He farmed in that area and also operated heavy equipment in construction.

He married Darleen (Deen) Sanders on Jan. 11, 1974, in Soldier. The couple made their home in Soldier, Onawa and Whiting. They operated RaLee's Restaurant in Onawa and the OK Cafe in Whiting. He retired from construction on 1992.

He was a member of First Congregational Church and the American Legion Emery Johnson Post 481 in Whiting. He was a talented handyman and especially enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Darleen of Whiting; two daughters and their husbands, Gaylene and John Dickinson and Norene and Rick Riley, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; his stepchildren, Connie Reed of Sloan, Iowa, and Ron Sanders and his wife, Kathy of Whiting; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Darlene and Joe Peterson of Thief River Falls, Minn., and Colleen and Geoffrey Lake of Soldier; and a brother, Bryce of Soldier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Donna Bierman; a brother, George Lee Jr.; an infant sister, Twila; an infant brother, Billy J.; a brother-in-law, Harvey Straight; and a sister-in-law, Alicia Lee.
