Sioux City Journal
28 December 2006

Daniel Frisch, 56, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at his residence, with his wife at his side, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Hite Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com .

Dan was born May 29, 1950, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Blanche (Harbeck) Frisch. His early life was spent on the farm in Westfield, Iowa, until 1964 when the family moved to Sioux City. He attended St. Boniface, Heelan High School and graduated from Central High School in 1968.

He worked for National Food Store and Lewis Bedding during and shortly after high school. In September 1969, he joined the U.S. Army. He served in reconnaissance in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star Medal with an oak-leaf cluster and the "V" device. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

He married Christy Snodgrass. To their union three beautiful children were born. They spent their entire lives working and raising their family together in Sioux City. He worked at various jobs until 1991, when the couple became the owners of the Sydney Lounge, now The Syd.

He was a very personable man, who had many friends. He was always there for friends and family, who found themselves in unfavorable circumstances. He would bail them out, but give them a stern talking to. He loved playing cards and gambling. His head for numbers and remembrances of facts would put most people in awe. He was an avid golfer and loved watching sports and game shows, especially Jeopardy, on television. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Christy; two daughters, Lisa Frisch and Sara Frisch of Sioux City; an adopted daughter, Shannon (Charles Cox) of McCook Lake, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Matt Turner, Derek Turner, Alissa Turner, J.T. Turner, Callie Frisch, Arie Cox and Charlie Cox; two sisters, Janet (Don) Rea of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Betty Klug of Sioux City; a brother, Loren (Edna) Frisch of Akron, Iowa; his parents-in-law, Paul and Barb Snodgrass; three sisters-in-law, Kay (Jerry) Coyle, Paula Wilson and Becky (Marc) Stratmeier; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Geoff Frisch; a sister, Agnes Sullivan; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Sullivan and Steve Snodgrass.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Moritz, Randy Uhl, Dick Mayer, Mike Elgert, Ron Schnee and Rich Satter.
