Charles Dexted Funkhouser, Only son of Gloria and Daniel Funkhouser was born at Bartlett, Mills County, Iowa on December 25, 1875 and passed from this life on January 25, 1952 at his farm home west of Whiting at the age of 76 years and 26 days.

The past three months he had been seriously ill and everything that could be done to ease him was done, until God called him to his eternal home.

The first twelve years of his life was spent at Bartlett, Iowa, then moving with his parents to Whiting, Iowa, he spent the remainder of years.

On January 5, 1898 he was united in marriage with Fanny O'Connor, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank O'Connor of Onawa. To this union was born 10 chilkdren, 7 sons and 3 daughters; Laurence, Melvin, Neal, Glen and Charles Jr. all of Whiting: Frank of Onawa; Floyd of Sloan; Mrs Dorothy Nickolisen of Onawa; Mrs Ada Baker of Whiting and Mrs Hope Rimmer of Quimby, Iowa.

Mr Funkhouser, better known as "Deck" was a farmer, gardner and Pototoe grower all of his life. He was a loving husband and father, his family being his greatest enjoyment in life. On January 5, 1948 the couple had the pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary their children, their families, friends and neighbors, making it a very happy milestone in their lives.

His last request were to have his sons serve as pallbearers and the songs "Beautiful Isle" and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" be used at the funeral services.

Survivors are his devoted wife, the ten children, 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Annie Huffman of Decatur, Nebraska and Mrs Pearl Anderson of Whiting, Iowa; a number of other relatives anda great host of friends.

Services were conducted from the Church of Christ in Whiting, with Everett Epperson and Gerald Knopp officiating. Music was brought by Mrs Willard Dahl and Mrs Clarence Halo vocal and Mrs Jane Matthews accompanist. Mrs Rev Burns, Mrs Althera Johnson and Mrs Ben Skidmore Sr. were in charge of the beautiful floral arrangements. Interment was in the family lot in the Harrison cemetery with the Wood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The date of the service was Wednesday, January 23re at 2:00 p.m.
