Charles Evans Funkhouser, 68, of Whiting, Iowa, died on Tuesday, September 15, 1987 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa following a long illness.

He was born August 23, 1919 at Whiting, the son of Charles and Francis Maria (O'Connor) Funkhouser. He graduated from the Whiting High School in 1937. He married Irene Wilkins September 13, 1946, in Onawa. A lifelong area farmer, he retired in 1981. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Emery-Johnson American-Legion Post No. 481 at Whiting.

Survivors include his wife, Irene of Whiting; four sons, Ronald of San Jose, Calif; Gary of Bemidji, Minn: Stanley of Coon Rapids, Ia: and Chuck of Sioux Falls, SD: a daughter, Jo Ann of Whiting; four brothers, Glen and Neal both of Whiting, Floyd of Sloan and Frank "Bill" of Lucerne, Calif and three sisters, Dorothy Nickoliasen of Sioux City, Mrs Ada Baker of Whiting and Mrs Hope Rimmer of Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Melvin.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 1987 at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa with Rev Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Mrs Syril Broiwn, the organist, accompanied the soloist, Mr Steven Johnson, in the selection "Going Down The Valley" and "How Great Thou Art"

Active Bearers were Scott Richardson, Dana Kirby, Laverne Simpson, Dean Forbes, Glen Dittman and Gale Brenden.

Honorary Bearers were Burnell Harding, Donnie Anderson, Lloyd Fiscus, Norval Dunbar, Dr John Garred Sr and Leo Hall.

Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery at Whiting with Military Graveside Services by Emery-Johnson American Legion Post No. 481 of Whiting, Leslie George Jr, Commander. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa
