Castana resident dies suddenly

Ralph Wallace Lyons, Castana, Iowa, died suddenly at his home on January 2, 1979. Death came at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 14 days.

Ralph was the son of the late James and Ella Waples Lyons and was born at Castana on May 19, 1908. He was a lifelong resident of Castana. During World War II he served in the Army in the South Pacific. He was affiliated with the Castana Community Church and was a member of Grimsley-Thayer Post No. 502 American Legion at Castana.

He is survived by Barbara Gross of Castana and one sister, Mrs Weare (Leona) Leff of Sioux City, Iowa. There are 5 nephews and 2 nieces and his grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 1979 at the Castana Community Church with Rev Homer Perry offociating. The organist, Mrs Paul Peterson, accompanied the soloist, Mrs Harvey Hanson, who sang the selections "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art".

Bearers were Ronald Burke, Paul Reed, Donald Brown, Lyle Lynn, Harley Morgan and Beecher Lamb.

Interment was in Kennebec Cemetery at Castana with Graveside Military Rites by Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post No 502, Chris Helmbrecht Commander
