Elsie Larson, age 93 of Ute, Iowa, died Saturday, December 18, 2004 in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 21 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Edward Brandt officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Eileen Brandt was the organist and pianist and David Hinrichsen (grandson) was the guitarist. The congregation sang, "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less", "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Let Us All With Gladsome Voice". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Elsie Larson was born January 19, 1911, at Ute, Iowa, the daughter of F.H. and Marie (Bartels) Neddermeyer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute and attended schools in the Ute area.

She married Herbert Hinrichsen, February 20, 1929, at St. Paul's, Ute. They farmed in the Charter Oak and Ute area until his death on July 7, 1966. She married Elmer Larson of Hinton, Iowa on February 3, 1968, at Ute and moved to Hinton, where they farmed until retiring in 1976 to an acreage at Charter Oak, Iowa. They moved into their home in Ute in 1990. Elmer died March 7, 1997. Elsie moved to Maple Heights May 5, 2001.

Elsie was a lifelong member of St. Paul's at Ute, where she was a past member of the Ladies Aid for many years, also belonging to many neighborhood clubs. Elsie most enjoyed having her family around her, working in her flower garden, playing cards and visiting and having coffee with her many friends. She had a fond love for music, and played an accordion by ear, even playing some at Maple Heights during her stay there.

Survivors include two sons, Earl Hinrichsen of Moorhead, Iowa and Roger and his wife, Janice, of Sioux City, Iowa; two daughters, Shirley Lee of Sioux City, Iowa and Joyce and her husband, Clark Downing of San Jacinto, California; a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Lowell) Hinrichsen, Ute, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Kounkel of LeMars, Iowa and Janet and her husband, Bill Ostler of Elma, Washington; stepdaughter-in-law, Jean (Doug) Larson, of Council Bluffs, Iowa and a host of grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons, Lowell and Orval Hinrichsen; stepson, Douglas Larson; two daughters-in-law, Sharon (Orval) and LaBerta (Earl) Hinrichsen; grandson, Steven Hinrichsen; and granddaughter, Tami Hinrichsen; step-granddaughter, Lori Kounkel; step-grandson, David Kounkel; four brothers, Robert, Henry, Fritz, and Martin Neddermeyer; three sisters, Mrs. George (Rose) Kuhlman, Mrs. John (Marie) Bretthauer, and Mrs. Lee (Clara) Schleis.

Pallbearers were grandchildren.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute.
