Ferne M. Kueny, age 84, of Mapleton, Iowa died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at her home after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Mapleton. Bonita Kane was the organist for the service and Sharyl Bruning was the vocalist. Music included, "Amazing Grace", "Here I Am Lord", "On Eagles Wings", "Ave Maria" and "Be Not Afraid". On Tuesday a rosary by St. Mary's Guild was held at 3:30 p.m. and a Vigil Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Ferne Mable Kueny was born December 9, 1920, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Mable (Edwards) Hansen. She grew up in Danbury and graduated with the Danbury High School class of 1939. On August 29, 1940, she married Maurice C. Kueny of Mapleton, Iowa. They lived in California for two years and then returned to Mapleton and lived there the rest of her life. Maurice died October 13, 1983.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton as well as St. Mary's Guild, Willow Vale Golf Course, and several coffee clubs. Ferne found enjoyment in playing bridge, golfing, traveling, bird watching, camping, and eating out with friends. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She provided her family and friends with many loving memories, memories that will fill the lives of those she loved with sunshine.

Those surviving left to cherish her memory include one son, Jim and wife, Karen, of Mapleton; three daughters, Bonnie Flynn and husband, Cliff, of Norfolk, Nebraska, Faye Hoskins and husband, Bob, of Danbury, and Mary Kueny of Marysville, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Dan Flynn and wife, Molly, Dave Flynn and wife, Lynette, Ann (Flynn) Starr and husband, Mat, Ron Kueny and wife, Jennie, Rich Kueny, Kris Kueny, Lori (Hoskins) Rastall and husband, Phil, Jill Hoskins-Erickson and husband, Larry, Rob Hoskins and wife, Rochelle, and Michael Kueny; seventeen great-grandchildren, Katie, Maggie, Justin, and Ashley Flynn, Morgan and Connor Starr, Aubree Kueny, Reyna Garza, Nicole and Vance Lacey, Megan, Allie, and Tyler Erickson, Steffanie, Makayla, Breanna, and Jaden Hoskins; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Hansen of Sac City, Iowa and Donna Petersen and husband, Robert, of Freeman, South Dakota and many good friends.

Along with her husband, Ferne was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Marvin and an infant brother at birth.

Pallbearers were Dan Flynn, Dave Flynn, Ron Kueny, Rich Kueny, Rob Hoskins and Michael Kueny.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
