April 18, 1931-March 6, 2005

Wilbur McNear, age 73 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. Bonita Kane was the organist for the service and Leo Kane was the lector. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Wilbur was born on April 18, 1931, in rural Anthon, the son of George and Marvel (Howard) McNear. He attended rural school through seventh grade and graduated from Oto High School in 1949.

Wilbur was united in marriage to Agnes Heisler on September 4, 1961, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. To this union three sons were born.

He helped his father in farming and owned and operated his own Sinclair Service Station in Oto and in Mapleton for over 50 years. He was active in the Mapleton Flying Club and had his own plane for several years. He also was a member of the Mapleton Community Club and of Maple Valley Development. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived for going to work every day and visiting with all his friends.

Family members left to cherish Wilbur's memory include his loving and devoted wife, Agnes; his three sons, Kent and Samantha and child Chris of Ute, IA, Lynn and Tami and children Brittany and Alexandria of LeMars, IA, and Mark and Molly and children Taylor and Tyler of Danbury, IA; two brothers, Ronnie and Barb of Fort Gibson, OK, and Gary and Susan of Fort Myers, FL; and two sisters, Virginia and Dale Hayworth of Correctionville, IA, and Betty Colesman of Aurora, CO. Wilbur also leaves many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, Sheri Lou Hayworth and a nephew, Todd Hayworth.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Ortner, Ed Henkenius, Dick Schleis, Pete Collins, Mick Drea, Marvin Drenkhahn and Leo Kane.

Pallbearers were Chuck Porter, Gregg Marsh, Don Castle, Steve Hayworth, Mike Price and Mike Alexander.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
