Norman H. Dose, 76, of Mapleton, Iowa died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at a Sioux City Hospital.

The funeral service for Norman was Saturday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Scott Fiege officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. Karen Krusen was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "Heaven Is My Home", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "How Great Thou Art". A prayer service was at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Norman Harold Dose was born October 13, 1928, near Danbury, Iowa, the son of William and Rose (Brown) Dose. The family moved to a farm five miles northwest of Mapleton where in the area, Norman grew up and was educated. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. On November 20, 1955, Norman was united in marriage to Elnora Nathlich in Mapleton. His life's work was in agriculture. The couple lived in Mapleton for a year when they moved to a farm west of town and later the family moved to the Bennett Farm near Smithland, Iowa. They lived at Danbury for a year and moved into Mapleton in 1984.

Norman was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton and the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496, also of Mapleton. He was also a member of the Sioux Valley V.F.W. Post #9124 of Oto, Iowa. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Norman include Elnora, his wife of nearly 50 years; one son, Kevin Dose of Mapleton; one daughter, Deborah Dose of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two brothers, Charles "Bud" Dose and his wife, Darlene, of Anthon, Iowa and Leo Dose and his wife, Norma Jean, of Mapleton; and one sister, Pauline Hummelgard and her husband, Orville, of Battle Creek, Iowa and several nieces and nephews along with many good friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant children, Patricia and Gregory.

Honorary pallbearers were Norman's nieces and nephews and fellow card players and coffee friends from the Beef 'n Brew.

Pallbearers were Jeff Dose, Steve Dose, Tom Nathlich, Jim Hummelgard, Scott Gerdes, Randy Herrold, Todd Farley and Marshall Goslar.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
