Walter Jahn, age 93 of Ute, Iowa, died Sunday, May 8, 2005.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Ed Brandt officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Lynette Thies was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Rock of Ages" and "Amazing Grace. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Walter Jahn was born December 23, 1911, in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Carl Jahn and Dora (Timm) Jahn. He was baptized January 21, 1912, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa by Pastor A. Amstien. He later attended Lutheran Parochial School in Ute. Walter was confirmed April 5, 1925 by Pastor C.A. Krog at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute where he remained a lifelong member.

On February 10, 1941, he was united in marriage to Edna S. Mohr by Pastor Hugo Neiting also at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ute. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Ute until retiring to town in 1975. Walter and Edna celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary February 10, 2005.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Walter include his wife, Edna; two sons and their wives, Evan and Janet Jahn of Richmond, Virginia and Dennis and Pam Jahn of Ute, Iowa; one daughter and her husband, Karen and Robert Starckovich of Bloomington, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Teresa Hemann, Jennifer Jahn, Rebecca Stone, Vernon Jahn, Valleri Gilbert, Wendy Balomenos, and Sara Starckovich; four great grandchildren, Kassitti Balomenos, Nicholas, Hemann, Tristan Gilbert, and Matthew Balomenos and one sister, Erma Sander of Fort Dodge, Iowa along with many nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Jenny Lou; two brothers, Herbert and Ervin; and two sisters, Lydia Jahn and Arlene Rude.

Pallbearers were Richard Timm, Gary Kuehl, Arlen Kuehl, Randy Mohr, Bruce Mohr and Dayle Runkle.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute.
