October 26, 1912-August 13, 2005

Edward J. Meier, age 92 of Mapleton, Iowa died unexpectedly at his residence Saturday, August 13, 2005.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial was in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. A vigil wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Edward Joseph Meier was born October 26, 1912, at Danbury, Iowa, the son of Ben and Julia (Rosauer) Meier. He grew up, was educated, and farmed in the Danbury area. On April 21, 1941, he married Delphine Helena Nielsen at Danbury. In 1974, they retired and moved to Mapleton. Ed then continued to help with the farm work on the Bud Patterson and Leo Uhl farms.

Delphine died March 12, 1988.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. His favorite pastimes were listening to polka music and driving his car. He always was ready with a pocketful of candy for his grandchildren and a root beer for the great grand kids.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Ed include one daughter and her husband, Roxanne and Ronald Engelke of Mapleton, Iowa and one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Williams of De Witt, Iowa; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law and her husband, DeVilda and Jim Collins of Danbury, Iowa, along with other relatives and good friends.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kurt; two brothers and two sisters.

Ed had a quote he often shared with family and friends, "If you don't use it, you lose it."

Honorary pallbearers were Becky Denton, Cassie Schadt, Bailey Melby, Bowdie Melby, Blane Melby and Chloe Melby.

Pallbearers were Joshua Meier, Matthew Meier, Brice Engelke, Richard Meier, Bob Meier and Ed Collins.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
