Luella Collins, age 78, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Friday, September 30, 2005, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend David Hemann officiated the service, with burial following in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Ida Grove. Friends called at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Monday from 3-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. There was a Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 7 p.m.

Born January 8, 1927, on a farm south of Mapleton, Iowa, Luella Edna Collins was the daughter of Raymond J. and Freida (Weifenbach) Kurth. She grew up in Mapleton, graduating from Mapleton High School in 1945.

On September 3, 1946, Luella married Patrick Henry Collins, Jr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. The couple farmed near Danbury, then moved to the Ida Grove area where Luella went to work for the Ida County Soil Conservation Service in 1966. She retired in 1990.

Luella was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, where she participated in Altar Society. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society, Ida Area for Life, Horn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Morningside Manor Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her many interests included sewing, embroidery, quilting, gardening, crafts, playing cards, and traveling.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Diane and Edward Lampe, Michael and Connie Collins, and Dennis and Becky Collins, all of Ida Grove; 10 grandchildren, Donna (Mike), Deb (Kenny), Katie, Michele (Dave), Melanie (Stan), Melissa, Justin, Jeremy (Heidi), Jennifer (Ryan), and Jamie (Mike); 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother and his wife, Ray and Carol Kurth of Riverside, CA; four sisters and their husbands, Florine and Robert Huffman of Anthon, Donna and Dean Payne of Castana, Dorothy and Gary Manson of Pleasant Hill, IL, and Gloria and Roger Pattison of LeMars; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Patrick in 1990; and a grandson, Nicholas Lampe.
