Raymond Casper Langenfeld, the son of George and Anna (Schmitz) Langenfeld was born July 22, 1915 at Westphalia, Iowa. He died October 21, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa having attained the age of 90 years, 2 months, and 29 days.

Services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 25 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak with Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Colleen Henderson was the organist for the service. A vigil wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Ray was baptized and attended school at St. Boniface Catholic Parish at Westphalia, Iowa. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute, the Town and Country Club, the Ute Commercial Club and the Ute Fire Department. Ray resided at Elmwood Care Centre at Onawa, Iowa the past year.

On January 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Marie Catherine Musich at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Ray and Marie had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in January 2004. Marie passed away April 14, 2004.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Langenfeld farmed around the Westphalia and Earling area until January 1963, when they purchased a bar restaurant, R and M Tavern, and moved to Ute, Iowa. In 1981 they retired and continued to live in Ute. After retirement they were custodians for the Ute Community Building until 1999. In addition, Ray mowed lawns around Ute, sold earthworms, and cleaned and sold walnuts each winter. His favorite pastimes were fishing and sitting on his front porch at home in Ute, waving and talking to all who passed by.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; one daughter, Joyce; three sisters, Lolly, Theresa, and Irene; and two brothers, Leo and Linus.

Surviving him are one son, Ronald and his wife, Connie, of Ute, Iowa; three daughters, Judy and her husband, Joe Patrick of Branson, Missouri, Diann Iversen of Moorhead, Iowa and Donna and her husband, Bill Warning of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchild; one brother, Greg, of Dunlap. Iowa; three sisters, Cleta Pitts and her husband, Carl of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Helen Siemers and her husband, Ben, of Dow City, Iowa and Odelia Anne Coenen and her husband, Norman, of Woodward, Iowa; and many others relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Susan Schechinger, Chelsea Petersen, Roger and Ichiko Schechinger, Rose Steinkuehler, Tony and Bonnie Cairney, Lynn Warning, Sherri Hollander and Doug and Karla Kamm.

Pallbearers were Michael Schechinger, Bob Schechinger, Steve Hollander, Brian Steinkuehler, Heath Langenfeld and Joel Petersen.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute.
