Floy M. Nicks, 80, of Sioux City, died Monday, May 1, 2006 in Sioux City.

Visitation was be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A prayer service was at 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. A funeral service was on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Bill Schug officiating. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Floy was born June 22, 1925 to Henry A. and Grace F. (Griswald) Powell in Mapleton, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Mapleton. After graduation she moved to Sioux City where she attended Sioux City Business College. Floy moved to Shenandoah, Iowa where she worked at Earl May Garden Center. On March 31, 1946 she married Earl Nicks in Troy, Kansas. The couple moved to Sioux City, then on to Hinton, Iowa where they remained. After Earl passed away Floy began working at Hallmark Care Center cooking for the residence for 14 years retiring in 1992. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary at New Hope Wesleyan Church and also the American Legion Post #477 in Hinton. Floy loved sewing, cooking and working in her garden. Her joy of being with her children, grandchildren, great, grandchildren and many friends is a true testament of how loving and caring she really was. Floy was also an avid fan of her beloved Chicago Cubs.

Floy is survived by her children: Keith Nicks and wife Barbara of Hinton, IA: James Nicks and wife Mary of South Sioux City, NE: Robert Nicks and wife Mary of Owasso, OK: Kathy Watson and husband John of Sioux City, IA: Dale Nicks and wife Verna of Hinton, IA: Julie McLeod and husband Jan of Bartlesville, OK: 15 grandchildren, 17 great, grandchildren, one sister Lorraine Powell of Sioux City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, daughter-in-law
