Gregory W. Berg, age 35, Onawa, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006 due to injuries sustained in a pickup/train accident near Onawa.

Gregory William Berg was born November 22, 1970, at Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Lorin and Rojean (Keil) Berg. He was raised and attended school at Maquoketa and Preston, Iowa until moving to Mapleton, Iowa in 1988 where he graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1990. He married Staci Komarek June 22, 2006 at Elk Point, South Dakota.

Greg was a technician at Barry Motors at Danbury, Iowa, Hoak Motors at Sioux City, Iowa, Mac's Chevrolet at Mapleton and was currently employed with Berg Construction of Sloan, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Staci and daughter, Kylee of Onawa; his mother and step-father, Rojean and Dan Scott of Sioux City; his father and step-mother, Lorin and Phyllis Berg of Charlotte, Iowa; his mother and father-in-law, Ed and Judy Komarek of Onawa; two brothers, Todd (Sylvia) Berg and Jeff (Jill) Berg, all of Sloan; two step-brothers, Doug (Deb) Scott of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Chris (Katie) Scott of Sloan; a step-sister, Amy (Justin) Ringler of Grinnell, Iowa; sister-in-law, Amanda Komarek of Onawa; grandfather, Eldon Keil of Sabula, Iowa; step-grandmother, Berniece Andersen of Belmond, Iowa; grandparents-in-law, Ronnie and Norma Wilder and Joe Komarek, all of Onawa and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leola Keil and Ervin and Goldie Berg; an uncle, Roger Keil; a nephew, Ashton Scott and a cousin, Kolynn Keil.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor John Hagberg officiating. Music selections were "How Great Thou Art", "I Can Only Imagine", "When I Get Where I'm Going" and a solo, "Angels Among Us" rendered by Becky Marcum. Jean Dommmer was organist. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation was 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Casket bearers were Mark LeFebvre, Kevin Goslar, Danny Komarek, Donald Fritz, Mark Hamman and Kevin Wilder. Honorary bearers were Hunter, Dustin, Jacob and Hannah Scott, Brooklynn and Tanner Madison, Brittany Ringler and Kody and Kirstin Berg.
