Charles Lee Irwin, Castana, Iowa died at the Elmwood Nursing Home at Onawa, Iowa on November 29, 1980, after a lengthy illness. Death came at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 1 day.

Lee was born on July 28, 1887 at Irwin, Iowa, the son of David Irwin and Mary Poynter Irwin. After finishing school in Irwin he attended college at Iowa City, Iowa, later coming to Monona County. He was married to Pearl Jordan and she preceded him in death. He married Beaulah Davis Rose on November 22, 1958.

He was a farmer and stockman and he bought horses for the government through three wars. He was baptized when a young man in the United Brethren Church at Audubon, Iowa and was a member of the Castana Community U.C.C. Church where he served on the board. He also served as Center Township Trustee, the school board and other community organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Beaulah; two step children, Mrs Donald (Maxine) Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa and Lyle Rose of Mapleton, Iowa; a niece, Mrs Bill (Gloria) Dunbar of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Verne Irwin of Basin, Wyoming; one sister, Mrs Lillian Fischer of Turin, Iowa; five step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 1980 at the Comminity Church at Castana with Rev Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs Paul Petersen, Jr was the organist and accompanied the soloist, Mrs Harvey Hanson, who sang the selections "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Well Done".

Active bearers were Hartley Robbins, Otis Denny; Cleo Melby, Wendall Lown, Brady Hanson and Fred Kisling. Honorary Bearers were Clarence Bond, Eldon Waples, Evan Davies, Paul Smith, Howard Robbins, Maurice Jensen, John Brockman and Ernest Nutt.

Interment was in Center Cemetery at Castana.
