Gail W Blakely, age 71, of Ticonic, Iowa, died Friday, February 21, 1997 at Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Ticonic United Methodist Church in Ticonic, with Pastor Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in Grant Townshiop Cemetery, Rodney, Iowa with military honors by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. Marilyn Longlee was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "This is My Father's World" and Louis Altken, soloist sang, "Life's Railroad to Heaven".

Gail Woodward Blakely was born December 13, 1925 at Ticonic, Iowa, the son of Albert H and Almira (Woodward) Blakely. He graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1943. He served his country during World War II with the Merchant Marines. On July 31, 1949, Gail was united in marriage to Beberly Lacock in Sioux City, Iowa. She died November 11, 1957. He later married Evon Nepper on February 12, 1977 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Gail was a well known farmer for many years, most recently having been farming in Lahaska, Pennsylvania.

Survivors include his wife, Evon; a son and his wife, Scott and Kathy Blakely of Smithland, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Dennis Smith of rural Castana, Iowa; one grandson, Ryan Blakely, who is currently stationed in San Antonio, Texas; three granddaughters, Robin Hurst who is currently stationed in Okinawa. Shane Coker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Heidi Smith of Rodney, Iowa; two great granddaughters, Paige and Erin; one step-son and his wife, Mike and Linda Nepper of Oto, Iowa; two step-daughters and their husbands, Linda and David Gosch of Charter Oak, Iowa and Donna and Ray Jacobs of Las Vegas, Nevada; three step grandsons; three step-granddaughters; one step great granddaughter and many other relatives and friends.

Along with his first wife, Gail was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Kathy Ann, a step-grandson, Quintin Nepper, a sister Gladys Ditch and a brother, Wilbur Blakely.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton
