Richard Wayne "Dick" Knutson, 69, of Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at his residence following a lengthy illness with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Ch-apel, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado of St. James United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Heisler Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa, with military rites. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Knutson was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Mapleton, the son of Roy and Alice (Strait) Knutson. He was raised in the Mapleton and Ute, Iowa, area. He moved with his family to Sioux City in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

He married Donna Lou Hinrickson on Nov. 25, 1956, in Mapleton. He was employed as a truck mechanic with International Harvester Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1994. He was also employed part time with Westside Radiator Shop until it closed.

He was a member of American Legion Monahan Post 64 and enjoyed fishing and yard sales.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Cherrie and Jay Wickey and Charmalee and Clint Essig, all of Sioux City, and Cindy and Donald "Hoss" Putzier of Pea Ridge, Ark.; six grandchildren, Tiffany and Priscilla Putzier, Richard, Ryan, Robert and Ronald Wickey; three brothers, Lyle and Raymond and his wife, Lucille, all of Sioux City, and Harold and his wife, Irene of Sebring, Fla.; two sisters, Betty McCormack and Phyllis and her husband, Leon Jolin, all of Sioux City; his father-in-law, John Hinrickson of Mapleton; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Darlene and John Collins of Springfield, Mo., and Diane and Matthew Sabaliauskas of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers-in-law, Douglas Hinrickson and his wife, Sylvia of Sioux City, and Donald Hinrickson of Longview, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Dora Hinrickson; a brother, Roy Jr.; an infant daughter, Vivian Knutson; a sister-in-law, Garnet Knutson; and a brother-in-law, James McCormack.

Pallbearers will be Larry Brostad, Forrest Tucker, Bernard Powell, Ted Mammen, Ronald Coots and Ronald Grubb.
