LaViece O. Hall Ernst, 83, of Sloan died Wednesday, February 8, 1989, at Clock Tower Nursing Home in Sgt. Bluff, Iowa, after a long illness.
She was born January 5, 1906, rural Sloan, to Harry and Clara (Brandstatter) Hall. She graduated from Sloan Consolidated High School and attended Temple, Arizonia, Teacher's College for two years. On May 20, 1936, she married Glenn Ernst in Onawa. The couple owned and operated Ernst's Cafe and Bowling Alley in Sloan. She operated LaViece's Ready to Wear Shop in Sloan until 1957. He died January 20, 1972 at Onawa.
She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and the Tabernacle Society.
Survivors include two sisters, Vermina Davis of Phoenix, Ariz and Joyce Boyer of Sloan: and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her parents; 2 brothers, Ellwood and Glen Hall; and 4 sisters, Lollie Hall, Alice Westhoff, Lucile Olson and CaRema Anderson.
A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 1989 at St Joseph's Catholic Church at Salix, Iowa. Mass Celebrant Reverend Father Raymond P. Wieling. Mrs Greg Heisterkamp, the organist, accompanied Mary Christensen, the soloist, in the selections "Ave Maria" and "Prayer of St Francis."
Bearers were John Hall, Brent Boyer, Johnnie Williams, Dennis Hall, Raymond Hall and Edwin Anderson.
INterment was in the Sloan Cemetery with arrangments by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan.
